Obey God and Don't Forget Your Purse Gracie reading her little bible while waiting on me to browse a booth at "An Affair of the Heart". Pumpkins in the cornfields It has been a few whirlwind months but I would like to get back to recording the simple things I find beautiful in my life. Fall is probably my all-time favorite season with Spring very close behind. Isn't it amazing that God,with all the intricate details of creating life and sustenance, took the time to give us beautiful things to enjoy as well?! My ever-faithful-to-return Mums are really liking SOMEthing this year, this is the fullest they have been since I planted them 8 years ago. And here is my new shabby bench bargain I found to replace the worn out wicker one. I love to sit here and watch the butterflies and honeybees flutter among the flowers. The season does not last long here so soon the mums will succumb to the freezing temperatures and retreat. They are beautiful while they last and now that they are captured on film, I can still enjoy them throughout the bleak winter months and look forward to the seasons' return. There sometimes seems to be no shortage of "looks" or comments when your child is misbehaving or a tad imperfect, but compliments are more rare. This week has been a difficult one simply because we have been traveling so much and everyone is tired, school is starting back up and of course we are not ready for dad to go back to work. So, today, at the end of a very long, trying week, a small note received in the mail was a much needed blessing. I have to post this on my journal to remind me of my blessings during trying times and to encourage me to continue on the journey of motherhood. Saturday was the pre-season tournament for Caleb's Coach-Pitch team league. His regular team moved up to kid-pitch (10 and under) this year but he wanted to play coach-pitch one more time. He was one of the younger ones and could still (by age) stay back. All of the kids on his team now are younger and smaller but he is excited about being the "big" kid - something he's never been before. I don't know what will happen next year, ball isn't 'fun' for him as it was in years past and even though he pushes himself to do his personal best, he isn't competitive in the "we have to win" sense. He is learning that as the kids get older, ball gets more serious. The teams are playing 'to win' rather than have fun so this may be our last year. That thought leaves me a bit melancholy on one hand, a bit relieved on the other. Between games we spent the lovely day in the yard climbing trees and planting our raised garden beds. The pear tree is loaded - any ideas on how to get them through to being edible? They never seem to make it and we'd love to have pears this year. Roses are not my favorite but a couple of years ago we fell in love with a beautiful little rose bush named "Joseph's Coat". It had lovely multi-colored petals in soft hues of peach, yellow and pink. I purchased it and planted it and since that time it has somehow turned into a plain wild looking red rosebush. I have not been able to find the reason (other than being told it was a hybrid and something made it revert) or how to make it go back to producing the lovely multi-colored petals it once produced. I suppose there is a lesson hidden in there somewhere. Everything seems to be blooming. The bees were certainly having a great time with the Hawthorn blooms. The bush was buzzing with them all afternoon. I'd love to follow them back to their home and find the honey! Maybe that would help my allergies. They seem to be on overdrive this Spring for some strange reason. Another busy but lovely day! Saturday was CHEAP day at Ranger Stadium, $4 tickets and $4 parking. It was the 'first' home game/last exhibition game so off we went to Texas! Jon & Jennifer went along with us to their 'first' Ranger game and it was our 'first' road trip together. The weather was really fabulous (for the 'first' time in a looonnng while) and the crowd was small. We left 'first' thing in the morning so we could swing by Gracie's favorite store - Sam Moon. It was my 'first' time to go there without Gracie (yes I felt guilty) and Jennifer's 'first' experience there as well! It was a bit frustrating however, because the men only gave us 45 minutes. If you've ever been to Sam Moon, you know what I mean, it is an impossibility to see everything in 45 minutes. Here they are at 'first' base. The man refuses to give me a 'normal' face! So, just for that, I'm posting this for all the world to see! After the game we drove back home using a different route. They took us through McKinney, TX which of course was our 'first' time there. We drove around the town a little and stopped at the quaint old downtown square, duly restored to a former glamour. It reminds me of a mix between Eureka Springs and Carmel. There were all types of quaint and bizarre stores in which to browse! (And samples to taste.) Yes, a definite "pose" but at least he wasn't making a face right? (Notice Jenn's FABULOUS new purse. From Sam Moon and her 'first' time to carry it.) Outside an old-time candy store with quite a few unusual items. I would have purchased these bacon items for Pam but at $6 each - I also found Bacon Band-Aids and Dental Floss. Eww. As you can tell from the pictures we took, we were truly kids in a candy store. We strolled around the square and did a little window shopping. This is my new dream bedroom. Pardon the glare and reflection, this store was (sadly in my opinion) closed for the day. Judging by the price tags visible through the window, it will remain a dream. This lovely vehicle was parked outside Emilia's Italian restaurant. There were lovely little sidewalk cafes on every street and the aromas pouring out from them were heavenly. We opted for Mexican food. Jenn opted for "puffy tacos". "First" bite. And our waiter, Jason. We asked him to take our photo. He said it was his 'first' time to take a customer's photo and seemed - oddly enough - to be quite anxious to accommodate. Then he wanted me to take his photo with a lot of money so his friends would think he was rich. This post would not be complete without mentioning the Giant Cheeto. Apparently everything in Texas IS bigger, even Cheetos. This little package single-handedly provided us with at least two hour's worth of giggles and conversation. Quite a bargain at 59 cents. We had a lovely day full of firsts! We're planning another group ballgame trip and anyone that would like to go is welcome. Just let me know!

Autumn
Gold among the brown
Leaves of rust and scarlet
Trembling slowly down
Birds that travel southward
Lovely time to play
Nothing is as pleasant
As an autumn day!A Little Note of Praise
A day of firsts ...
. I was thinking of you, does that count?
